Install Skype 4.1 on Ubuntu 12.10 “Quantal Quetzal”


skype logoSkype is the most widely used voice over ip solution in the world, it allow users to communicate with peers by voice. It has option to make video calls,instant messaging and call to mobile phones. Skype service between computer is free of charge where as between computer and mobile phones based on normal call rates. It supports multiple operating system such as windows,Linux and Mac.

Here is the small tutorial about installing Skype on Ubuntu 12.10.

Method 1:

Visit Skype download center, select operating system and open with Ubuntu software center.

Click on install.

Method 2:

Open terminal ( Ctrl + Alt + T).

Install dependencies.

sudo apt-get install libxss1 pulseaudio libqt4-webkit

Download Skype.


Install Skype.

sudo dpkg -i skype-ubuntu-lucid_4.1.0.20-1_i386.deb

Start Skype:

Start Skype from Dash bar ( Dash Home —-> Search —-> Skype ).

Accept License Agreement.
