Install LibreOffice 3.5 on openSUSE 12 / openSUSE 12.1

LibreOffice is the power-packed free, libre and open source personal productivity suite for Windows, Macintosh and GNU/Linux, that gives you six feature-rich applications for all your document production and data processing needs: Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Math and Base. LibreOffices announces the 3.5.0 Final on 2012-02-14,  Here is the tutorial about the installation of LibreOffice 3.5 on openSUSE 12.1

 

 

Requirements: 

  • Linux kernel version 2.6.18 or higher;
  • glibc2 version 2.5 or higher;
  • gtk version 2.10.4 or higher;
  • Pentium-compatible PC (Pentium III, Athlon or more-recent system recommended);
  • 256Mb RAM (512Mb RAM recommended);
  • Up to 1.55Gb available hard disk space;
  • X Server with 1024×768 resolution (higher resolution recommended), with at least 256 colors;
  • Gnome 2.16 or higher, with the gail 1.8.6 and at-spi 1.7 packages (required for support for assistive technology [AT] tools), or another compatible GUI (such as KDE, among others).

For certain features of the software – but not most – Java is required. Java is notably required for Base.

Remove LibreOffice:

openSUSE comes with the pre installed LibreOffice suite of version 3.4.x, before installing the new version you have to uninstall the older version from your system. Please issue the following command to uninstall.

zypper rm LibreOffice

Download LibreOffice:

You need to Download LibreOffice rpm package from the LibreOffice.

Open Terminal.

32 bit version

raj@geeksite:~ $ wget http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.5.0/rpm/x86/LibO_3.5.0_Linux_x86_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz

64 bit version

raj@geeksite:~ $ wget http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.5.0/rpm/x86_64/LibO_3.5.0_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz

Install LibreOffice:

Switch to root user.

raj@geeksite:~ $ su

Extract the Tar ball.

root@geeksite:~ # tar -zxvf LibO_3.5.0_Linux_*

Access the Extracted directory.

root@geeksite:~ # cd LibO_3.5.0rc3*

Install the LibreOffice RPM packages and desktop integration too.

root@geeksite:~ # rpm -Uvh RPMS/*.rpm
root@geeksite:~ # rpm -Uvh RPMS/desktop-integration/libreoffice3.5-suse-menus-3.5-13.noarch.rpm

Install Help Pack:

If would you like to install Help pack.

32 bit version

root@geeksite:~ # wget http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.5.0/rpm/x86/LibO_3.5.0_Linux_x86_helppack-rpm_en-US.tar.gz

64 bit version

root@geeksite:~ # wget http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.5.0/rpm/x86_64/LibO_3.5.0_Linux_x86-64_helppack-rpm_en-US.tar.gz

Extract and install RPM.

root@geeksite:~ # tar -zxvf LibO_3.5.0_Linux_*_helppack-rpm_en-US.tar.gz
root@geeksite:~ # rpm -Uvh LibO_3.5.0rc3_Linux_*_helppack-rpm_en-US/RPMS/libobasis3.5*

Start LibreOffice 3.5.0:

Start LibreOffice 3.5.0 ( Kickoff —-> Applications —-> Office —-> Office).

Or from command line.

root@geeksite:~ # libreoffice3.5
